Bruxism: Teeth Grinding and Clenching
Teeth grinding is the act of consciously or unconsciously clenching your teeth either during the day or while you sleep. It is considered a medical and a dental problem because it affects both the teeth and all of the structure near it, including the head.
Teeth grinding may contribute to biting or chewing difficulty or discomfort, clicking or popping sound when opening or closing the mouth, dull and aching pain in the face, jaw pain or tenderness of the jaw, etc.
Following are some common dental related reasons for teeth grinding:
- Problem with the alignment of the teeth itself, in which case we will create a customized mouth night guard for tooth and enamel protection for you.
- If you are suffering from severe complications of teeth grinding like jaw problems, we could then refer you to a doctor to address the symptoms. Once the complications are all taken care of, we would then perform the treatment procedure required to eliminate teeth grinding.
